• Pumpkin winners, where art thou?

Two weeks ago in this space we announced the first Brazos Bottom Pumpkinpalooza, an opportunity for our readers to be creative and play with knives at the very same time.

In that column, I proclaimed that we would announce the names of our winners today. Well, what is it they say about best-laid plans?

The winners have been chosen, but I can't tell you who they are yet. Why? Because we live in the Age of the Internet, that's why. And as wonderful as the Age of the Internet can be, it poses certain, er, challenges.

The rules were simple: Readers would carve a pumpkin and post a photo at theeagle.com, and the winners would get prizes -- once we verified who the winners were.

And therein lies the rub. We got a bunch of fine entries, and our judges were most impressed. They agonized over their choices, then we notified the winners.
